MEET OUR TEAM

Barbara Currence – Founder and CEO

Barbara Currence is the founder of BJC Jewelry and the founder and CEO of Forever Abiding In Thy Hope (F.A.I.T.H., Inc.). She is also an author, jewelry designer, and wedding and event planner. F.A.I.T.H., Inc. was inspired by her personal experience and calling, and it focuses on helping individuals with intellectual disabilities live their best lives. Through combined efforts and jewelry sales, F.A.I.T.H. will soon be able to provide life-changing services, education, and employment opportunities to individuals in the communities we serve.

MEET OUR TEAM

Shanna Mavis, Board Member

Rich background in business management and tax advisory. Her journey began in high school, organizing events and providing administrative support as a side hustle. She graduated with honors from NEO A&M College with an Associate’s degree in Computer Science and gained extensive experience working in various companies.

In 2000, Shanna moved to Oregon and built a successful career at H&R Block as a Senior Tax Advisor and Certified Master Instructor. She also launched S. Deezy’s Fabulous Fried Chicken, where she honed her skills in business planning, market analysis, and customer engagement.

After returning to Texas, Shanna managed the Hard Rock account at a hospitality company before transitioning to a rewarding role at a software company. In 2020, she founded The Coach for Business to support small business owners with training and resources. She co-hosts “The Better Your Business Show” and recently launched a joint venture offering tailored solutions for business owners through Business Empire Financial.

Shanna is dedicated to empowering new and aspiring business owners, providing them with the guidance, support, and resources needed to thrive. She continues to innovate with new projects, including a show called “All Up In Ya Business” and a vision for a foundation to assist individuals facing financial hardship.

Dr. Kim Gilmore, Board Member

Dr. Kim Gilmore is a dedicated Adult Nurse Practitioner with dual certification as a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist and adult nurse practitioner. She began her nursing journey in 1986 with a diploma from the Orangeburg School of Nursing, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1991 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 1998, emphasizing community mental health. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama in 2012.

Dr. Gilmore is the owner of Omega Psychiatric Solutions, providing medication management and psychiatric services in the greater Columbia area, and K.I.M. Consulting Services. After a distinguished 28-year career with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, she retired and now works in corrections, providing mental health services to inmates.

Actively involved in her community, Dr. Gilmore serves on various boards, including the South Carolina Nurses Association and Mental Health America Board. She has held numerous leadership positions, such as Vice President of Delta Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. Her favorite proverb is: “Give me a fish, and I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, and I will eat for a lifetime.”

Faith Currence, Office Manager

Faith Currence is a dedicated professional with a strong educational background and a commitment to continuous learning. A graduate of Penn Foster High School, Faith has pursued additional coursework to enhance her administrative and office management skills. She holds a certificate in Office Management, reflecting her proficiency in handling office operations efficiently and effectively. Faith’s dedication and skills make her an invaluable asset to the F.A.I.T.H., Inc. team, where she ensures smooth and efficient administrative operations, supporting the organization’s mission to empower individuals with intellectual disabilities.
